Biography: Ian Miller was appointed Director of Technology (Displays) at Samsung Electronics America in July 2000, after gaining extensive experience of display product manufacturing, development and measurement with a variety of display technologies. In this role he has responsibilities for all the display technologies being used and investigated by Samsung. He is closely involved with the development of industry standards, particularly at VESA, where he is a director.
Presentation: Trends and Directions in Monitor Design
Abstract: This paper will concentrate on some of the exciting changes taking place in the computer monitor market. LCD products are being introduced with widescreens in the mainstream market; narrow bezel designs are moving out of niche applications to span the size range; convergence products combining aspects of traditional monitor and TV products are widely available; and LCD displays with image sizes that compete directly with PDP displays are being introduced. CRT monitors continue to show innovation in features. In all categories of product there is continued emphasis on higher performance.
