Biography: François Leblanc received his PhD in Thin Film Optics from Ecole Polytechnique, France in 1992, and then joined Hitachi Research Laboratories, Japan, developing characterisation techniques for TFT-LCD manufacturing. From 1995 to 2002, he held various positions at Unaxis, from Process Engineer to SBU Manager. He managed international teams supporting TFT Manufacturers in field service. As SBU Manager, he focused on R&D, engineering and customer strategy, and gained knowledge of technology transfer and LCD market dynamics. He joined Nemoptic in 2002 as head of the industry department.
Presentation: BiNem®-LCD Technology
Abstract: The BiNem®-LCD Technology offers excellent bistability and high optical quality at competitive STN-LCD costs. It is based on simple LC texturing and weak LC anchoring on specific alignment layers. We introduce how the BiNem® Technology is transfered to STN-LCD mass-production industrial tools. The most mature application targets 7-inch ebook readers for the Chinese education market, with a significant technical and financial upside potential as compared to other small area mobile Display technologies.
